SUMMARY:Personal Data & Identity: A New Path with Michael Becker
DESCRIPTION:Greetings PCI community: You are welcome to join a Content Evolution nuWorld videocall tomorrow as our guests\, Thursday 16 March at 11 AM ET: \nThe Personal Data & Identity Meeting of The Waters: A New Path To Value with our guest presenter Michael Becker. \n \nPersonal data and identity management are being reshaped by shifts in consumer opinion\, regulations\, and technology. These shifts demand that businesses see and approach personal data and identity in new and innovative ways. In this session\, Michael Becker\, a global leader in personal data and identity management\, will explain the convergence of traditional organizational-centric and people-centric approaches to personal data and identity management\, a phenomenon he calls the personal data and identity meeting of the waters. He will explain the five domains of the data\, the ever-changing landscape of personal data regulations\, the introduction of new technologies that empower people to protect and take control of their data\, and The Identity Nexus. Finally\, through the lens of the three-horizon framework\, Michael will explore new personal data and identity tactics and strategies that enterprises can embrace to increase revenues\, reduce costs\, enhance their customers’ experience throughout the customer journey\, mitigate cybercrime\, and comply with industry regulations. \nAbout Michael Becker \nMichael Becker is a strategic advisor\, author\, speaker\, and educator. Michael is the founder and CEO of Identity Praxis and is the Mobile Ecosystem Forum PD&I Working Group Chair. He is an adjunct professor for California State Polytechnic University\, Pomona\, National University\, and the Association of National Advertisers. SUMMARY:Generative AI after the release of ChatGPT
DESCRIPTION:Greetings People Centered Internet Community: \nReminder this Sunday 5 February starting at 11:30 AM ET we will have a panel discussion about… \n“Generative AI after the release of ChatGPT” \nWe will be joined by panelists Gary Bolles\, Doug Hohulin\, Kyle Shannon\, and I’ll moderate. \nAttention has grown exponentially for Generative AI systems and tools of all stripes after the early December release of ChatGPT. The AI and machine learning landscape is well populated and has been making steady progress in language\, audio\, and visual capabilities\, yet ChatGPT the more accessible cousin of GPT-3 from Open AI has triggered widespread interest and experimentation. It is now the fastest growing online platform in history overtaking Tik Tok and Instagram adoption curves. What are the implications of this technology and how it will augment and creatively destroy how and what we do today? Joining us for this PCI panel discussion will be Gary Bolles\, Doug Hohulin\, and Kyle Shannon. Gary is considering how this tech will change the future of work\, Doug is delivering perspectives on a people-centered generative AI with a focus on improving healthcare and education\, and Kyle has launched five information and community initiatives including “Everyday AI” – “The AI Artists Salon” – and “AI Learning Lab on Tik Tok” to understand and harness Generative AI for business and creativity. \n\nJoin us for this panel in the PCI Zoom Room at 11:30 AM ET this Sunday 5 February. \nBy the way\, when I asked ChatGPT: “What is the relevance of ChatGPT to the mission of the People Centered Internet?” \nChatGPT responded: “The People Centered Internet (PCI) is a nonprofit organization that aims to create a better and more equitable internet for all people. One of the ways in which ChatGPT is relevant to PCI’s mission is by enabling the creation and dissemination of high-quality\, accessible information. By providing a fast and accurate source of information through natural language processing\, ChatGPT can help people access the information they need to make informed decisions and participate in society more effectively. Additionally\, the technology behind ChatGPT can be used to develop other applications that further the PCI’s goals\, such as helping to combat misinformation and promote digital literacy.”

SUMMARY:Global Observance of World Habitat Day 2022
DESCRIPTION:World Habitat Day is held on the first Monday of October and launches Urban October. The day centres around the global observance\, which is held in a different country each year with keynote speakers and roundtable discussions focused on a specific theme. World Habitat Day was first celebrated in 1986 in Nairobi\, Kenya\, with the theme ‘Shelter is my right’. \nOn 3 October 2022\, the Global Observance of World Habitat Day\, under the theme Mind the Gap. Leave No One and No Place Behind\, will look at the problem of growing inequality and challenges in cities and human settlements. \n\n\nEvent City and Country\nBalikesir\, Türkiye (Venue: Avlu Kongre ve Kültür Merkez – Art center)\n\n\n\nEvent Date\n\n3 October 2022\n\n\n\n\nMessages from the UN Secretary General and the Executive Director\n\n\n\n\nSG’s Message for the World Habitat Day\n\nEach year\, World Habitat Day focuses attention on the state of human settlements. This year’s theme – ‘Mind the Gap. Leave No One and No Place Behind’ – puts the spotlight on widening inequalities in living conditions across the world. A cascade of challenges – from climate chaos and conflicts to COVID-19 – is hitting the most vulnerable populations the hardest. \n\n\nEnglish\, Arabic\, Chinese\, French\, Russian\, Spanish\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nED’s Message for the World Habitat Day\n\nThe COVID pandemic\, recent conflicts and the climate emergency have reversed years of progress in our fight against poverty. Today we are witnessing the emergence of newly poor people – those of us who have fallen into poverty due to the FOUR Cs: Covid\, Conflict and Climate Crises. The UN-Habitat’s World Cities Report estimates that up to 163 million newly poor people now live in cities and urban areas. DESCRIPTION:Watch the event on-demand.\nRead the report.\nSpeakers:\n\nJochai Ben-Avie (Connect Humanity)\nBen Matranga (Connectivity Capital)\nJane Coffin (Connect Humanity)\nBruce Patterson (EntryPoint Networks)\nCarlos Rey-Moreno (Association for Progressive Communications)\nShaun Pather (Zenzeleni)\nAnoop Nagendra (Connectivity Capital)\nChris Conder MBE (B4RN)\nJuan Peirano (Internet Society\n\n\nWe are pleased to invite you to the launch of the “Financing mechanisms for locally-owned internet infrastructure” report\, a new study that documents and analyzes the operating models and financing mechanisms that can enable community connectivity providers to expand internet access and build digital equity.   Across the world\, a growing number of community networks\, municipal networks and social enterprises are successfully connecting those who have historically been unserved or underserved\, especially in the areas where traditional for-profit companies choose not to invest. While these community connectivity providers are building solutions to the persistent digital divide\, almost all of them struggle to access capital.   This publication provides an overview of various network models while giving a deep look at how they can be financed sustainably to provide reliable\, affordable internet to more communities. The online launch will bring together experts and network builders to discuss the report and strategies that can fund community-centred internet networks. It will also be an opportunity to learn more about successful case studies and discuss recommendations for policymakers\, funders and network builders. The “Financing mechanisms for locally-owned internet infrastructure” report comes from a partnership between Association for Progressive Communications\, Connect Humanity\, Connectivity Capital\, and the Internet Society.

SUMMARY:Science Summit meeting on Sickle Cell
DESCRIPTION:Introduction \nAchieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for health in many countries in Africa will include addressing sickle cell disease (SCD)\, a chronic non-communicable disorder (NCD) Africa is the epicenter of the disease burden: an estimated 80% of patients live in Africa and more than 300\,000 new babies with SCD are born on the continent each year. Historically\, health systems in many regions have been ill-equipped to provide optimal preventative and therapeutic healthcare over the life-course of patients with SCD and the result has been high rates of mortality and severe morbidity beginning in early childhood. In this context\, the current era of scientific innovation holds promise for helping patients\, health workers\, policy makers\, and other stakeholders to make a sustained impact on population health as it relates to SCD.\nObjectives\nThe session will:\n• Educate stakeholders on state-of-the-art understanding of the SCD in Africa and major scientific activities underway that have both immediate and long-term implications for patient outcomes.\n• Outline how the outputs of basic biomedical science\, including the elucidation of genetic underpinnings of disease\, will translate to improved patient care.\n• Define key implementation research learnings and outstanding needs to assure successful delivery of newborn screening at large \nAbstract \nThis Session will focus on three critical areas of science: (a) Biomedical science to help better understand the nature of SCD in patients in Africa; (b) Implementation research to guide the effective delivery of interventions proven to save lives from SCD in Africa including newborn screening and distribution of existing medicines and interventions; (c) Partnerships in Research and development of new therapeutics . The focus will be on gene-based therapies that are designed to cure SCD.\nMuhimbili University of Health & Allied Sciences (MUHAS)\, Tanzania\, will convene this Session. MUHAS is part of SickleinAfrica\, a multinational consortium comprising national-level stakeholders in Tanzania\, Nigeria\, Ghana\, Uganda\, Zimbabwe\, Zambia\, and Mali\, with coordinating centres in Tanzania and South Africa. MUHAS is also part of Sickle CHARTA\, A Consortium for Health\, Advocacy\, Research and Training fin Africa. The main goal is to reduce the burden of SCD through the generation and application of scientific knowledge\, and conducting research in Africa.\nTarget audience\nMulti-disciplinary stakeholders that are working to address SCD at country\, regional\, and global levels. Participants are anticipated to include patient advocates\, clinicians\, policy makers & other government officials\, researchers\, industry\, NGOs\, philanthropies\, and multilateral health organizations. \nExpected outcomes \nEducate stakeholders on state-of-the-art understanding of the SCD in Africa and major scientific activities underway that have both immediate and long-term implications for patient outcomes.\n• Outline how the outputs of basic biomedical science\, including the elucidation of genetic underpinnings of disease\, will translate to improved patient care.\n• Define key implementation research learnings and outstanding needs to assure successful delivery of newborn screening at large scale in Africa and the safe and effective distribution of approved medicines such as hydroxyurea that are proven to save lives and reduce severe morbidities.\n• Showcase current efforts to discover definitive gene therapy cures for SCD and explore the anticipated enablers and barriers to achieving widespread access for patients in Africa.\n• Recommend pragmatic approaches to cross-sector collaboration that will maximize the quantity and quality of research to address SCD in Africa with an emphasis on conducting research within Africa
