Living Learning Communities
The PCI coalition embodies the belief that the Internet can bring different groups of people together to form Living Learning Communities that advance a more People-Centered vision of the future of the Internet; a vision of better global connectivity and digital inclusion; a vision of vision better ways to counter online hate and polarizing misinformation online; a vision of more informed approaches to technology, data, and AI ethics in pluralistic societies, and more. Currently we have 5 Teams:
- Internet Connectivity for Native Americans – MuralNet
- Internet Connectivity for Native Americans – TDVNet
- Scaling and Fundraising in Support of PCI Efforts
- Internet Connectivity and Inclusion in West Africa
- EQUALS Women in Tech Taskforce
Definition of #ChangeAgents: Leaders who “illuminate the way” and manage the friction of stepping outside the status quo. Anyone can be a change agent, you do not have to wait to receive formal authority to do so.
As PCI itself is a “lean startup”-like non-profit, often PCI serves as a connector or a broker of good project ideas with external sources of funding to help improve people’s lives and livelihoods using more People-Centered approaches to technologies. Previous PCI efforts included:
- Post-Wildfires Recovery in California
- 2018 Hurricane Recovery in Puerto Rico
- Our People-Centered Digital Future Event
Deploy Locally; Learn + Scale + Improve Globally
Living learning communities embody the idea of using networks to share improvements and lessons that benefit everyone. Feedback ensures each new living learning community project becomes increasingly effective and the positive #ChangeAgents working with PCI all benefit from understanding new opportunities to help people thrive. Partnering with PCI »
Such a vision is consistent with early computer pioneer Doug Engelbart‘s vision of technology helping to bring together different groups of people as part of “Living Learning Communities”. We humans all are still working through the different ways the Internet impacts how we work, live, play, govern, obtain information, receive news, share comments, collaborate, co-exist as pluralistic societies — and many more activities.
Each of our Team initiatives, led by PCI community members, seek to illuminate new ways forward that help different communities as sectors collectively learn how to improve our world based upon the perspectives of different people, communities, and societies.
