Welcome to Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Internet event!
Join us on Monday, 15 July, 2024 at The Royal Society as we commemorate this significant milestone in technology.
Event Programme
The event will be opened by the co-inventor of the Internet Dr Vint Cerf and will feature a series of panels with eminent speakers that will look back at what the Internet has achieved in the last fifty years and focus on the next generation of the Internet and AI.
There will be a drinks and canapes reception to close.

- The Internet as an Infrastructure – Chaired by Sir David Payne, Professor of Photonics, University of Southampton
- The Internet as a Facilitator of Opportunity – Chaired by Mei Lin Fung, Co-Chair and Co-founder of People-Centered Internet
- The Internet and Society – Chaired by Dame Wendy Hall, Regius Professor of Computer Science, University of Southampton, Director of the Web Science Institute, and Trustee of the Web Science Trust.
The event will be co-organised by the Royal Society and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and supported by the Web Science Trust, People-Centered Internet, Digital Enlightenment Forum, The Digital Humanism Initiative, and the Web Science Institute, University of Southampton, UK.
