It is a little known fact science fiction lovers created the first social network by asking everyone to send a list of their favorite science fiction authors. This was the first group email (or e-mail as it was then called), sent in 1979. Vint Cerf still recalls this as the moment he realized the Internet would be something more than every other communications technology before, “It was clear we had a new social medium on our hands,” he said.
