Bai K. Blyden, Senior Engineer at Southern Company, hosts an Armchair Interview with Under Secretary of State at the US State Department, Catherine A. Novelli. Ms. Novelli shares her perspective of what Internet Inclusion means to the US Government and how she envisions the next steps in Advancing Solutions.
State of Internet Inclusion
This session covers the five regions (Africa, Asia, Central and South America, Europe, and North America) from the 13 April Global Connect Stakeholders: Advancing Solutions event and subsequent developments/work efforts. Speakers are the technical and country representatives with situational knowledge of each region. Each region representative provides reflections on the identified issues and update on their region’s progress, current and future projects, and regulatory/technical challenges.
Examples for Success in 2020
In bringing forth Examples for Success 2020, Mei Lin Fung of People Centered Internet launches this session with information about the IEEE Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technologies (IEEE SIGHT) work in Tunisia, featuring:

Financing Connectivity Workshop
This engaged dialogue, moderated by Amber Nystrom, features leaders on the forefront of financial connectivity and delivery. The session provides a hands-on and practical immersion into cutting-edge social-commercial financial structures and financing strategies that enable last-mile connectivity and resilient systems transformation of the most pressing challenges facing people, planet, and prosperity.
Setting the Conditions for 2020
Thematic Roundtables Part One: What Will It Take? To weave together shared goals and attain common purpose, discussion leaders will set out the parameters of the themes and invite comment and feedback to create a statement of each theme. Several of the themes are linked to the outcomes of the High-Level Roundtable on Internet for All, hosted by the World Economic Forum.
Day One Wrap Up

Emphasizing the importance of connectivity and cross-collaboration, Ms. Smith entails specific examples of how globalizing the Internet will improve economy, workforce and everyday life.
Roundtable: Technologists Connection
Led by the IEEE and the White House, this interactive roundtable discussion features the unique role of technologists working among all stakeholders to identify high-impact projects and to advance and realize solutions.
Public Knowledge/Access Now Panel
This session launches the Draft Principles and Recommendations on Connectivity Investment and Human Rights, and the Global Connect Working Group on Connectivity, Human Rights, and Development to a broader audience. These principles aim to ensure that initiatives and funding for connectivity projects and infrastructure account for human rights at their core and implement these by design.
Lightning Talks
In this segment, technologies and deployment experts look at the key new technologies that will be required to make internet for all vibrant, affordable, and valuable: next-generation wireless technologies, equal access, cyber-security, trust technologies such as blockchain, and more.
Business Dialogue
On the theme of Business and Technology: Creating Ecosystems to Thrive, this Business Dialogue session emphasizes on one of the critical elements of sustainable internet-enabled initiatives – the delivery of economic uplift for local economies. How can we develop the necessary ecosystems that leverage the internet to support jobs and growing businesses?
Connecting the Unconnected with Christopher Yoo
Professor Christopher Yoo at University of Pennsylvania presents his talk on Empirical Research into innovative Approaches to Connecting the Unconnected. Although businesses, civil society organizations, and governments have initiated a wide range of new strategies for connecting the unconnected, to date no one has systematically analyzed these initiatives or conducted an empirical assessment of their effectiveness.
Connecting to Thrive Panel
This panel presents the results of the October 5th discussion groups in a moderated session focused on collaboration for synergy and success. Country representatives are invited to speak up and identify the themes and first steps that will support their people connecting to thrive.
Expert Panel: Opportunity Landscape Review
“Impact Infrastructure” elevates one of the world’s most resilient asset classes into a mass-scale tool for catapulting resilient and inclusive connectivity, prosperity, and sustainable development. This engaged session presents multiple lenses for understanding impact infrastructure and financing, and for engaging in this next vital frontier for catapulting connectivity forward worldwide.
Panel: We Succeed by Working in Concert
This final panel session weaves together the threads of our efforts to create a fabric for the future so we can work purposefully in concert to advance solutions that create the conditions for success for internet inclusion.
